Languages and markets
Shopper languages
Everything EU Shop Kit shows your shoppers is available in all 24 official EU languages: Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Irish, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish and Swedish.
That covers the withdrawal button and dialog, the confirmation email, the legal-guarantee notice, the product safety headings, the GARAN label and the prior-price line.
How the language is chosen
- EU Shop Kit uses the language of the page the shopper is viewing. On a multilingual Wix site, each language version gets its own texts. If a page doesn’t state its language, the shopper’s browser language is used.
- If that language isn’t one of the 24 EU languages, EU Shop Kit uses your default shopper language.
The confirmation email is sent in the language the shopper used for the withdrawal.
Texts you enter yourself, such as warnings, manufacturer details and document titles, appear exactly as you wrote them.
Official wording
Where the law prescribes the exact wording, EU Shop Kit uses the official text from the Official Journal of the EU, word for word:
- the withdrawal button label, such as “Withdraw from contract here” in English or “Vertrag widerrufen” in German;
- the confirmation label, such as “Confirm withdrawal”;
- the sentence for your withdrawal policy;
- the legal-guarantee notice.
The official labels differ from language to language. The German label, for example, has no word for “here”. That’s why EU Shop Kit uses each language’s own official version instead of translating the English one. Neither translations nor settings can change these texts. Other texts, such as the instructions in the withdrawal dialog, are translations.
Default shopper language
Set it in Apps → EU Shop Kit → Settings → Languages and markets → Default shopper language. When you install EU Shop Kit, it’s set to your site’s language if that’s an EU language.
EU Shop Kit uses it:
- when a shopper’s language can’t be detected or isn’t an EU language;
- for the product warnings and safety information you enter;
- for the link in the order-email tip under Settings → EU legal-guarantee notice.
Notification emails to you are written in your default shopper language if it’s one of the dashboard languages below, and in English otherwise.
Countries you sell to
Choose your markets in Apps → EU Shop Kit → Settings → Languages and markets → Countries you sell to. You can select EU countries as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, or click All EU countries. When you install EU Shop Kit, your business country is selected if it’s in the EU.
Your markets tell EU Shop Kit which languages your shoppers use: the official EU languages of each country you select. The product safety check counts warnings written in any of these languages or in your default shopper language. See Warnings in several languages.
Your markets don’t limit where the withdrawal button appears or who can use it.
Dashboard languages
The EU Shop Kit dashboard is available in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch and Polish. It follows the language of your Wix dashboard, and uses English for any other language.
This help centre is available in the same languages. Articles that haven’t been translated yet are shown in English.
