Prior prices for discounts (Omnibus)
When you announce a discount to consumers in the EU, you must also show the lowest price the product had in the 30 days before the discount. EU Shop Kit records your prices and shows this prior price on your product pages. This is a Pro feature.
The rule
Since 28 May 2022, every announcement of a price reduction must show the prior price: the lowest price you applied in the 30 days before the reduction (Art. 6a of the Price Indication Directive 98/6/EC, added by the Omnibus Directive (EU) 2019/2161).
- A percentage or “you save” amount must be based on this prior price (Court of Justice of the EU, case C-330/23).
- The rule applies to goods.
- EU countries may set their own rules for discounts that increase step by step, for products on the market for less than 30 days, and for goods that spoil quickly.
How EU Shop Kit does it
- It records your prices from the day you install it. It reads all your products when you install it, checks them every day, and records changes as soon as you update a product in Wix Stores. Prices are recorded for each variant.
- It finds your discounted products. A product counts as discounted when Wix Stores shows it on sale, with a sale price below its original price.
- It works out the prior price for each variant: the lowest price in the 30 days before the discount started.
- It shows the prior price on the product page for the selected variant, in the shopper’s language. For example: “Lowest price in the 30 days before the discount: €24.99”.
Prices are recorded on every plan, including Free, so the history is already there when you upgrade. To record your latest prices straight away, click Sync products in Apps → EU Shop Kit → Products.
EU Shop Kit doesn’t change your prices, struck-through prices or sale badges in Wix. If you show a percentage, make sure it’s based on the prior price. EU Shop Kit shows the prior price on product pages only, while Wix also shows sale prices in other places, such as product galleries.
Settings
Open Apps → EU Shop Kit → Settings → Lowest price before discounts (Omnibus). Click Save after making changes.
Show the lowest price of the last 30 days on discounted products turns the feature on or off. It’s switched on automatically when you upgrade from Free.
Progressive discounts
For a discount that grows step by step without a break, for example 10% off and then 20% off:
- Compare with the price before the first reduction (default): the prior price stays the one from before the first step. Several EU countries allow this (Art. 6a(5)).
- Restart the 30 days at every further reduction: each new step gets its own 30-day look-back.
Choose the option allowed in the countries you sell to.
While less than 30 days of history exist
- Show the lowest price we know (default): shows the lowest price EU Shop Kit has recorded so far.
- Hide until history is complete: shows nothing for that variant until 30 days of history exist, unless you’ve entered the prior price manually.
The first 30 days after installing
EU Shop Kit only knows your prices from the day you installed it. For a discount that starts less than 30 days later, the history doesn’t cover the full 30 days, and the real lowest price may have been lower before you installed.
To fill the gap:
- Open Apps → EU Shop Kit → Products and click the discounted product.
- Under Price history (Omnibus), look for the note “We started tracking prices less than 30 days before this sale”.
- In Lowest price before the discount (manual), enter the lowest price of the 30 days before the discount, for each variant that shows the note.
- Click Save.
While the history is incomplete, your manual price is shown instead of the recorded one.
If a product was already on sale when you installed EU Shop Kit, there’s no recorded price from before the discount. Nothing is shown for it until you enter the prior price manually.
For a product created in Wix Stores less than 30 days before its discount, EU Shop Kit uses the lowest price recorded since the product was created. Check the rules of the countries you sell to for new products.
Check a product
The Products list shows which products are On sale. Click a product to see its Price history (Omnibus): the lowest price in the 30 days before the discount for each variant, or “Not on sale.”
